Claude Design: design without being a designer

Anthropic Labs' visual tool: describe what you want and Claude creates presentations, prototypes and marketing assets with a professional finish. What it is, how to use it and how to write the perfect brief.

What is Claude Design?

Claude Design is Anthropic's collaborative visual creation tool, launched by Anthropic Labs in April 2026. You describe what you need โ€” with text, uploaded documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), images or even your own codebase โ€” and Claude generates polished designs, interactive prototypes, presentations and marketing materials that you then refine with inline comments, direct text editing and adjustment controls (spacing, color, layout).

Its differentiating superpower: it reads your design system. Give it access to your code or brand files and it automatically applies your colors, typography and components โ€” designs come out "on brand" from the first attempt. When you're happy, export (Canva, PDF, PPTX, HTML) or hand it straight to Claude Code to turn it into a real product.

Available on Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

Presentations

Branded pitch decks and reports: from a text document to slides ready to present.

๐Ÿ“ฑ

Prototypes

Wireframes and interactive app/web prototypes โ€” even with voice, video and 3D โ€” without opening Figma.

๐Ÿ“ฃ

Marketing

Campaign creatives, social posts and sales collateral consistent with your visual identity.

How to use it, step by step

Start from what you have

Write a description, upload a document (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX), a reference image or a capture of your live site. The better the starting point, the better the result.

Write a good brief

Just like with any designer: what it is, who it's for, what it should convey and what constraints exist. Use our brief generator below so you don't forget anything.

Refine with comments

Comment directly on the design ("make this headline bigger", "try it in blue"), edit text inline and adjust spacing and color with the controls.

Share and export

Share with your team (view-only or edit), export to Canva, PDF, PPTX or HTML โ€” or hand it to Claude Code to actually build it.

3 real-world examples

  • Founder without a designer: uploads their business plan in Word and asks "turn this into a 10-slide pitch deck, minimalist style, for investors". Refines headlines with comments and exports to PPTX. Total time: one afternoon instead of a week of agency work.
  • Product manager: describes their app's signup flow and gets a navigable interactive prototype to validate with users โ€” and once it works, hands it to Claude Code to implement it with the same design system.
  • Marketer: feeds Claude a capture of their website so it learns the brand, then generates a month of on-brand social creatives โ€” no generic stock templates.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Design free?
It's included in Claude's paid plans (Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise), with extra-usage options. It's not in the free plan โ€” see how to make the most of Claude's free tier for everything else.
Does it replace Figma or Canva?
It partially competes with both, but the approach differs: it's not a canvas where you draw, it's a collaborator you describe things to and iterate with. It also exports to Canva and to code, so many use it as the step before, not a replacement.
Do I need design skills to use it?
No โ€” that's exactly the point. Knowing how to describe what you want (a good brief) matters more than knowing design tools. Our generator above gives you the structure.

The winning combo: Design + Cowork
