What is Claude Cowork?
Claude Cowork is Anthropic's agent for non-technical work: if Claude Code is the programming teammate, Cowork is the office teammate. Give it access to a folder or describe a task in natural language, and it executes end to end: organizing files, creating Word documents and Excel sheets, preparing presentations, researching the web, filling in reports and automating the repetitive stuff.
The key difference from a normal chat: it doesn't give you instructions, it does the work. It doesn't explain how to sort your invoices — it sorts them. And since the 2026 move to the cloud, sessions keep running even when you close your laptop: assign something from your phone in the morning and collect the result in the afternoon. It also supports scheduled tasks (weekly reports, daily digests) and extends with the same skills and MCP connectors as the rest of the Claude ecosystem.

Open Cowork and give it context
From Claude's desktop app, enter Cowork and add the folder you want it to work with (you control what it can access). You review any important changes before they're final.
